The Law and Bishop Olson

Linking here to a report dated June 7, 2023, from a Houston, TX Fox TV station concerning Fort Worth Bishop Michael Olson’s recent issues with the nuns of a Carmelite monastery in Arlington, TX. The item describes criminal investigations reportedly now underway in Tarrant County into the events of recent weeks. As a sometime financial and frequent prayer support contributor to that monastery, I was disturbed by news reports that Bishop Olson, who has a reputation for, shall we say, volatility, had descended upon the nuns in a seemingly exaggerated and authoritarian manner. Thus, the information in the linked news report comes as some consolation, in my view, at this stage of the proceedings. Please pray both for Bishop Olson and the nuns.

Laudetur Jesus Christus!

  1. I attended a confirmation in the FW Diocese and the good Bishop presided and gave a stirring homily that did the Catechism proud. Until I learn different, I’m inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I’d note that early in his tenure he locked horns with some traddy college (St Thomas and St. John Fisher or something) and in during that bunfight, Taylor Marshall quit his job there and started podding and running the Heritage Girls or something. He defended Bishop Olson at the time, and he ended up being right.

    1. I too have in the past heard some positive things about him. And we must always assume that the Church is unlikely to be treated fairly in the media. I hope the investigation will be fair and thorough.
